Most kids and teens have to endure having braces in order to get the huge pay off of a perfectly straight smile of pearly whites. In some cases, adults decide to get braces but that is as crazy as it gets… or that is what we thought. Soon you might be calling your dog ‘brace face’ as apparently having a pet with straight teeth is a thing now too!

Meet Wesley, the super cute Golden Retriever puppy from Spring Lake, Michigan who has gone viral after needing a set of braces! At only 6 months old, it became apparent that this dental procedure would be needed on the pup… but why? Luckily it was for health reasons and not aesthetic reasons as his smile was already super cute.

Due to the position of his teeth, it was clear from even when he was just a tiny puppy that he was unable to close his mouth properly which soon led to him having difficulty eating his food and stopped him from enjoying puppy essentials like playing with chew toys.

‘When people hear that Dr. Moore is a “doggie dentist”, they immediately say things like: “What? Does he put braces on dogs, too?” The answer is . . . yes. Yes, he does,’ said the hospital’s Facebook post, when showing their work on Wesley.

‘He wasn’t playing with his toys and he was losing weight, it was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain-free and live a happy puppy life.’ The good news is, Wesley’s case was not too complex so he only needs the braces for a couple of weeks and then he’ll be good to go. Additionally, puppy Wesley was lucky enough to have his owners father actually be a vet that specialised in dog dentistry… what are the chances?!

‘It obviously doesn’t bother him one little bit, he’s a happy little guy. We don’t place braces or any oral appliances in the mouth for aesthetics. We do this for pain or function.’ said Dr Moore, his dentist! People online loved this story so much it got a huge 280,000 shares and 250,000 likes! Wesley has also been a story on huge news channels and has built up his own fan club… cute!
